Our vision for SWEL is a high quality dual language, multi-lingual, multi-cultural, Reggio Emilia inspired early childhood program that fosters the holistic development of each child within the context of their home culture and language.
SWEL preschool is a bi-lingual Spanish-English preschool with many teachers fluent in Spanish and English. Our dual language program includes music, books and labels on all materials in the classroom. Curriculum is delivered in English and Spanish, making it easy for our preschoolers to learn Spanish quickly. We take many field trips to support our experiential learning philosophy.
The teachers take into careful consideration each child's individual learning style and the overall class interest when preparing the curriculum. At the beginning of each year, teachers develop an individual development plan for each child and continue to track their progress carefully throughout the year.

CURRICULUM
SWEL implements a Reggio Emilia approach that recognizes children as strong and powerful contributors to their own learning. In a Reggio inspired program the image of the child is central-the child who is curious, full of wonder, rich in resources, able to construct and co-construct his or her own learning. Teachers and students together discover the joy of learning. At SWEL we aim to build upon the curiosity, wonder and richness that children bring to school.
The four goals of a culturally relevant anti-bias approach are:
Goal 1: Nurture the construction of a knowledgeable, confident identity as an individual and as a member of multiple cultural groups (such as gender, race, ethnicity, or class).
Goal 2: Promote comfortable, empathic interaction with people from diverse backgrounds.
Goal 3: Foster each child’s ability to recognize bias and injustice.
Goal 4: Cultivate each child’s ability to stand up, individually and with others, against bias or injustice.
